WeeGaard

The WeeGaard is a simple plastic envelope that you attach to a car seat. Inside that plastic envelope is contact information for people that can care for your child.

Imagine a scenario where you get into a car accident are injured, but your child is safe and snug in the car seat. You aren't in any shape to be taking care of a baby, but the emergency response people have no way of contacting your family members to come watch the little one. What happens to your little one between the time it takes to figure out how to get in touch with Dad or Grandma?

The WeeGaard is one of those simple ideas that everybody should take care of. The cost of the product is only about $5.00 US, and if that's too much, you can easily replicate the idea using a luggage tag or a white ID sticker and a sharpie. I think they deserve the 5 bucks for coming up with the idea in the first place.

What happens when you don't have something like this? Hospital staff will do what they can to locate emergency contact numbers to find someone who can take care of children in the event that a parent is injured and unable to care for them. Their capability to spend time finding a suitable contact will fluctuate according to how busy the hospital is at any given point and time. If they can't find someone to care for the children, Child Protective Services is called to care for them. Once CPS is involved, it could potentially take up to three days to get a child released into the custody of a relative or friend.
