Default Traveling and Carseats

I know we've talked about this before, but I wanted to get your thoughts/opinions again.

We're taking a trip to DL at the end of the month. Tara will be in her infant carseat still, so strapping that into a taxi if we use one won't be an issue. We have a snap n go stroller, so she'll be easy to transport.

We have a travel carseat for Nora that we bought from One Step Ahead. We can take that and strap it into a taxi if we use one.

But, I was struck with the weirdness of the situation:

Last year when we went to DL we took the shuttle and used no restraint system for Nora...no one did and there weren't even seatbelts.

This year, DH is adamant about not taking the shuttle (it was a horrible experience), so we'll either have to drive into the park or use a cab. While I don't recall being unsettled about not using a restraint for Nora in the shuttle, I can't imagine not using something in a taxi.

What do you all think?

I would definately use a seat in the taxi. I'm guessing they would be able to store it for you at guest services once you are at the park.

We've always stayed @ the park or within walking distance so I've never had this issue but now that I think about it, I don't think I would worry on the shuttle but would in the taxi - that is strange.

Are you flying down and into OC? We took taxis in Las Vegas last weekend and only had Christine in her infant seat...but if I were going from the airport to Disney, I would want a carseat. When are you getting in? Maybe the Sarah mini van shuttle can take you over to D-land with all the carseats strapped in

They have some strappy product that can be used in lieu of a traditional carseat...let me try to find the name of it.

I have to say, this is why we always take the bus to the airport. Cheap...and no carseat mess.

We have one of these. But, I guess I am posing the bigger question: why do we think it is OK to take a child on a bus or shuttle with no carseat but wouldn't dream of it in a car???

Here's a site that talks about your taxi options http://www.thecarseatlady.com/taxis/using_taxis.html

As for the bus or a train or subway...well, for starters there aren't any seat belts on the bus or train so you really don't have an option. For another reason, buses & trains are safer than cars. Buses are heavier and bulkier -- they can withstand the impact of an accident without injuring the occupants much better than a car. They are simply proven to be much safer modes of transportation...even without the ability to belt your kid in.

I would feel more comfortable in a large shuttle than a small car. 1. If there's an accident the shuttle bus will fair better than a smaller car. 2. There's less likelihood of an accident in the shuttle. Other cars can see it better (not sure this is a great reason.)
Same reason that people buy giant SUVs and Suburbans, because they feel safer. IMO

Car seats are not allowed on a bus. We tried to take them when we were on the bus (greyhound type) going from DisneyWorld to the cruise last year and they told us it was against the law to use a carseat on the bus. Since there are no seatbelts its not even possible.
