Oh man. I got that for DH for Christmas and he returned it. I am seriously considering buying it now and calling it my own birthday gift. That price is way lower than I got it for at Christmas.

The XT is a fine camera. It was replaced by the XTi which was not replaced by the XSi. My 2 cents is that which one you want really depends on what you think you're going to want and how you're going to use it. Is it going to bother you to not have the latest and greatest or would you be stoked to just have an SLR and and the thought of spending $750 rather than $500 makes you a little green? There are upgrades with the new incarnations but I'm not going to ditch my XTi for an XSi, <acronym title="know what I mean"><acronym title="know what I mean">KWIM</acronym></acronym>? The camera can make a big difference but the person behind the camera makes more of a difference. If you learn how to use it, you can take great pictures.

Thank you for all of this info. DH is ZERO help. From Ally's post, has the price, in general, come down a lot?

After all of the money we've spent on the house over the last month, I am having a hard time justifying this right now. However, I thought I was looking at a $1500+ purchase. $500 is a little easier to swallow in comparison.

I am not a talented photographer. I am ok with not having the latest and greatest, but I do want a good camera. I think I may wait another month or so and take a closer look then. So be expecting the questions then

Yes, thanks for ALL of the help. I also decided to hold off on the purchase for right now. We have a lot of expenses coming up with the move, and we have to front all moving expenses until DH gets the moving bonus. So, we're going to wait until after we're settled ... as long as I have that bad boy before the holidays, I am a-ok.

Okay, this is going on my birthday/Christmas list. Tell me *exactly* what I need. Be precise. DH and I know nothing about this - I just want to take clear pictures and will be shooting on auto mode.
