Default Laptop recommendations?

We've been wanting to get one for awhile now. Everyone is running such great sales. Any that you love/hate? I've heard people either love or hate Dell. I want to use it for the internet and for storing my pics. on. I don't need a ton of bells and whistles, although they are nice. I would like to be able to hook up our current printer if possible.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I have the HP Lance Strong Live Strong version and I'm already sick of it. The DVD drive pops open on it's own every once in a while, it's kind of heavy, it's slow, etc. When I bought it last year, I bought it because the battery life was supposed to be really good. The guy was telling me 7 hours! Yeah, right. This thing will go dead after about an hour and a half. I wouldn't recommend it...

Mac. I didn't think I would like it. It turns out I LOVE it. I will never go back to a PC for personal use.

We have 3 Dells and 1 HP. I wish I knew more about them, but 2 of the Dell's I hate. They are way too heavy. The screen is bigger, which is nice, but I think my back would break if I had to carry it around. My Dell is smaller, but if very powerful. It was also the most expensive (it is for work, and it needed to do certain things.) The HP was a cheapy, I think $600 or less a few years ago. It has been fine, but even though it is a laptop, it stays put.

It really depends what you want the computer to do. The HP is DH's for work, my Dell is for work as well. He mostly needs the internet and MS office, not much else. Since I am in IT, mine needs all kinds of firewalls, programs, etc. The other Dell's Dh got for a steal. They were from a university that is under contract to update every year. So they are only a year old and sturdy. We use one for pictures and the other is pretty much for the internet. The pictures were slowing down the HP a ton. Dh had to buy external storeage for all of his music because it slowed down the HP. So, it really depends on your needs.

I think next time around I'd like to try a Mac.

That is exactly what my sister said. She is so happy with hers that I am giving it serious thought when I get a laptop (I'm still desktop at this point)

We have two Toshibas and love them. DH's is more of a "workhorse", and mine is more basic, but does everything I need it to.

Most of the new PC's come with Vista, which is having problems with printers. Even after going to the HP site and downloading Vista-compatible drivers, my laptop still will not cooperate. But, that is Vista--not Toshiba.

I have a Dell Inspirion (sp?), and I LOVE it! We have it hooked up wirelessly to our current printer, and that is just the best thing ever.

I have a HP Pavilion dv8000 and I LOVE it. It has an extra large screen and 2 80GB hard drives. It came loaded with everything - and the best feature for me is it has 10-key to the right of the keyboard. That is a must for me. I got it at Costco last year.

Thanks ladies! I am actually the proud new owner of a Toshiba! DH couldn't believe that I actually went out and got a new computer. He said aliens must have taken over his wife! I never like to spend money-esp. on electronics. However, with DS on the way, the desktop will have to be moved either upstairs or to the basement (EEewww!!!) so I thought a laptop would make much more sense with 2 little ones and a home business. So yay! When DH gets home, he'll set it up for me. Thanks for all of the input!
