Default Kitchen fabric help & colors

I am so bad with colors!

Okay, we currently are painting the kitchen this color but a bit lighter:

Our cabinets are this color (and sadly, our kitchen looks a lot like this one) and will hopefully be painted an off-white/cream soon. The counters and backsplashes and area over counters/under cabinets are cream. So in the cooking area, just the soffets are the green color. But there is more of it in the eat-in area:

I need to make valances for 3 windows (one large by eating area, one over kitchen sink and one for the back door), cover our chair seats and do a large french bulletin board (fabric covered with criss-cross ribbon to hold things). I'll also be doing some smaller things like a lined basket for on top of the fridge....

In the replies below (I can only put 4 images in each message) are the fabrics on my design board (don't need to use all of them). I feel like I need the lilac as a complementary color and to warm things up.

What fabric would you use for

valances?

seat covers?

bulletin board?

I'm in agreement on that umbrella stripe! That would look great on valances.

Love the stripe too. Could you also pull out a brown from there and add that to baskets etc. That would be warmer. The cream cabinets will warm it up too.

My fav fabrics are the bubbles, mod squad and umbrella stripe. I'd probably use the bubbles for the bulletin board and then flip a coin on the others (I know, not helpful at all). On second thought, I'd probably go with the stripes for valances.

I'm not sure on the seat covers. Depending on how much pattern that other fabrics brought into the room, I might do something complimentary but more solid.

One other thought - Could you use a chocolate brown to warm things up? I think that would look great with the blue/green color and cabinets (whether they stay brown or get painted cream).

No matter what you choose, I think it'll be beautiful. I love all the fabrics!

I would probably do the striped valances and the bubbles on chairs. I like the epic stripe as well - a little bolder. Then maybe the bulletin board in the lilac since you're going to have the cross-stripes and that may interfere with the pattern underneath? Maybe you could do two seats in the circles and two in the lilac to tie it in? Good luck - sounds like a fun project!

I'd do the umbrella stripe and then plain chocolate brown seat covers to accent. I like the lilac idea too. How about adding some art that is lilac? Placemats? Clock? Little things.
It's going to be so pretty!

Personally, I LOVE stripes. I am always drawn to stripes. But...you know when you sew with stripes you have to be so careful about matching things up that sometimes it is just way too much of a headache. So, in that respect, I would like the bubbles for anything that you would need some flexibility or forgiveness. The stripes would be perfect for the bulletin board though. And I also adore the squares...but once again matching that up and not letting them get distorted through stretching or odd shapes can be very tricky.

I really like the umbrella stripe and the thicker stripe patterns. Since you like the umbrella stripe most of all, I would use that on the areas where you require more fabric, such as the valances and the seat covers. I think I would choose a complementary colour in a solid for the bulletin board (since it might look really busy if you combine a pattern along with all of the items you put up on the board. FWIW, I dont think you need the lilac to warm the scheme up as you already have the chocolate brown in the stripe (as far as I can tell) and it has a warmth to it.

Sounds like a fun project, Jennifer. You ll have to post some photos for us once you ve finished!
