Default Jill or anyone who's used a babyhawk mei tai

I remember the babyhawk meitai was suggested to me by Jill a while as a gift to my BF. I've checked their site and they have an amazing/overwhelming selection of prints. I spoke to my friend and she said she's bought a sling her DD doesn't like being in but she did much better in the meitai so she'd like that. I also will give her an option of a diaper bag. I've asked her to do her own picking of pattern/color scheme and I will provide her with sites to choose from.

My question is...is babyhawk a specific brand that carries meitais? I see a lot of sites with meitais, are they all more or less the same? What makes babyhawk so special (other than the great selection)? I just want to make sure I get her something of great quality and it seems to me babyhawk it is?

Also, when you customize your meitai, do you do print on one side and solid on the other? Or if you do prints on both sides, do they have to match? Or can they be competely differen? I guess my question is whether the reversible part shows at all when worn on the inside in which case it would be a good idea that it complements/contrasts nicely the other pattern instead of being completely off.

And how much time should I estimate for delivery if I'm doing a customized one?

I got the Baby Hawk style mei tai (you can get a mei tai anywhere they just have a great one!) and I got the reversible fabric. One side had black with butterflies and the other side had pink with flowers. Totally up to you how you want to do it. I also added the pockets and toy ring. My first Baby Hawk (I went through three...I kept giving them to friends who LOVED them) I just got from their "in stock" selection but it had pink straps. I suggest getting a dark color strap because they drag on the ground when you are getting the baby tied up. My second one had chocolate brown straps. Those were great too. The baby hawk was really user friendly and not bulky at all. I just shipped #3 out to a very good friend who is due any day now. She is so excited because she knows how much C just loved it and I used it all the time!

I agree about getting one with dark straps. They are so long that it is impossible to keep them off the ground when you are putting it on. I got Just one print and the pocket. I didn't feel the need to spend the little extra for the reversable print. (which you don't see while wearing).

I find the Babyhawk to be super comfortabe and easy to put on. Nathan also hated the sling, but still loves to be in the Babyhawk.

It took about 2-3 weeks to get it after I place the order.

I have had probably 10 Mei Tei carriers and 2 of them are Baby Hawks and they are hands down the best in my opinion.
The padding for the shoulders is the right amount in the right spot. The body is a nice size - not too low, not too high and I like the hedrest
Both of mine are 2 sided - one has 2 sided straps I got in a special auction and with both of mine I got a pocket on one side. When I wear her on the front I use the pocket in the front for keys, cell phone etc. When I wear her on my back I can use either side.
With both of mine one side is more girly and one side is more geometric/masculine as Ken and Cory both wear her in the BH

Great, thanks for the info ladies, that's what I was looking for. Good idea Keri about having a masculine/feminine side. Question about the pocket: with a baby in there is there room in the pocket to put things in without disturbing the baby? The site mentioned it fits 4 diapers, I thought that was weird unless it is loose but with the baby in there I'd think it has to be tight around him/her.

I only use the pocket for burp cloth & such. Nothing too big.
