I went to a seminar by a ped's office here that supports "Conscious Discipline" ideas - I think the woman's name was Becky Bailey. They had some great ideas, and they were all about routines and rituals. I've been reading "Positive Disclipline" and my ped's book, "Who's the boss" recently, and both kind of have the same idea - establish routines that are always followed and written down. It would take some time to begin, but I think totally worth it. They do not support reward charts since that makes it seem like these things are "special", not things you do every day, but maybe for extraordinary things (extra chores, being very cooperative, getting out of the house by 8 instead of 8:15, something like that?). The seminar was called "How to leave the house without losing your mind"
Edited to add that Kat's parents had some good ideas!
