How far out should you plan a trip to Disney World?
We're thinking about going next year in April...

It depends. If you are certain about your dates now, then at least go ahead and book the hotel now. Otherwise, 6 months should be plenty of time to get a room in April (summer months may require more advance planning).

April is busy b/c of spring breakers (well young Spring Breakers not like college crowd) so you may want to weigh that in on when to make reservations and it depends on what you want to do. Some things book really early on like to eat at the Castle or do the Hoopdy Doo Review or something alnog those lines so I would give a heads up on that. I would say once you really know what you want to do book it. But 6 montsh should be fine.

I want to go with you!!!!!!!I think that a good 6 months is is well enough time to plan.And like Jaye said,you may want to go ahead and book your hotel soon.
We're going again in a couple years,once the Harry Potter theme park opens at Universal(yes I am HP dork)so we're going to do a big trip and do Universal(mainly for the "adult kids"like me,DH and my brother) and then Disney.E will be 3 or so.My mom is a Disney fanatic and can't wait to start planning the Disney portion of the trip.It's going to be a big family trip.Sorry to hijack your post.I just got excited.

We've been in early Feb and November. Both times, we planned about 2 months in advance. I'm not a big Disney fan, so I'm not much help, other than to say it's smart to book all the "breakfast" type things in advance, before they fill up.

The Princess character meals in Cinderella's Castle can be booked in advance - 180 days beginning at 7am - and are completely booked by 7:04am. There is a whole section in the book I am reading about how to get yourself reservations. My friend is a AAA-Disney travel agent and confirms it.

We're going in January and I am waiting until late fall to book everything (better rates and no worries about finding a room since it's the slow season), but I'll do the princess meal long before then!
