Default Afraid of his bowl?

So, every since Murphy's abscessed tooth incident last week, he won't eat the food from his bowl. I thought it was because he was still in some pain...or because the pain meds were upsetting his stomach...but NO. He'll eat, just not from his bowl! I guess he is still associating his pain with eating...

So how do I get him to eat from his bowl again?? I have to pour his food all over the floor so he'll eat (and waiting for him to get hungry enough to just dive in didn't work!) Any ideas??

Daisy was like that...We had to get her a smaller bowl. She hated her tag clanking on it or even seeing silver (the bottom of the bowl) or whatever spooked her but she would stand there and bark and only eat her food if we poured it on the floor. Just try a different bowl even a kitchen bowl or tupperware and see if it helps.

My current foster dog is funny about bowls, too. While she will drink out of straight-sided deep ceramic bowl, she won't eat out of one just like it. After trying several shapes and materials, she will eat out of a wide shallow plastic one. Go figure!

What does he love? Peanut butter? Gravy? A little Cheez Whiz (great for holding kibble in a Kong, Btw).

Have you tried smearing some on the bowl and putting some kibble on top?

if that doesn't work, I'd get him a new bowl.

You could just feed him his meals in the kong if he likes those.

Is he eating soft food right now, Tracy? Howie had two abscessed teeth pulled a few weeks ago and up until yesterday was eating only soft food. Other than that, have you tried moving his bowl to a different location or using a different bowl/dish, temporarily?
