Default 3 year old birthday party.

Any hints on how to have a smooth running 3 year olds birthday party? I was thinking of playing one game with them and then just letting them run around and eat...

I loved Little Mr's at-home 3YO party! It was really fun. Here are the basics:

6 kids total

General play time upon arrival (some coloring sheets/crayons also set out at a kid-size table, with a few munchies for adults&kids).

1 game of pin the tail on the donkey (about 5 minutes)

General play time again.

Cookie decorating as another activity at Little Mr's kid-size table (this activity kept them BUSY for at least 30 minutes)

Served food.

Did the cake.

Opened gifts.

*Poof* 2 hours passed and time to hand out loot bags!

We couldn't do G last year but we were thinking renting a bounce house.
She loves those.

I think I would have several ideas planned out. If you get to them, you get to them, but if you don't then no problem.

They should be able to do musical chairs (or floor mats) or Red Light, Green Light if you need activity games.

I second starting with something general, to keep them entertained as people arrive. I've been doing this with all our extended family events - setting up a little craft station at the coffee table (foam sticker crafts, threading beads on braclets, stuff like that). Maybe they could decorate birthday hats...or just go to the craft store and browse the aisles for something fun.

Having *JUST* survived a 3 year old's party

I had nothing planned I thought they could play well that did not go over well, so we quickly threw together a game of ring around the Rosie, Musical chairs & Freeze game....OMG those were a hit the girl wanted to keep playing them over and over again!

We went to a few parties where there were crafts that were planned and I found them all to be a flop. so that is why I chose not to do them. Go with some basics. Musical chairs was the Best!
