I'm looking at ideas for our upcoming pirate party and lots of the sites I've found say they made sashes out of reminants. Can anyone clue me in as to how to make a sash?

BTW, I can do basic sewing, but that is about it.

Do you really even need to sew it? Wouldn't you just cut a piece of fabric as long as you want it and make the edges jagged with scissors? Or am I thinking of the wrong thing?
