| Mystery quilts? | | Have you guys ever tried this? It's where you have quilt directions, but you don't know what the finished product will look like.
I did one through my favorite Cape Cod quilt shop, and they supplied the fabrics and directions. The quilt was really amazing when it was done.
I always thought it would be fun to do some sort of mystery quilt exchange, where we choose mystery directions and all work on our own fabrics, or send fabrics and directions to each other. |

| Re: Mystery quilts? | | It DOES sound like fun. Quilts are on my Life List. Maybe when I'm done making Little Dresses, I can take up quilting. It isn't the piecing, it is the actual quilting that makes me nervous. Watching quilters free-hand a feather stitch (or whatever) on a machine on TV looks daunting. And I've done a lot of hand-work in my time, but hand-quilting is not at all appealing. |

I machine quilt quickly. I love the piecing, but I get impatient with the quilting part. |

| Re: Mystery quilts? | | I still don't have a walking foot for my machine. I've only hand quilted.
I've never done a mystery quilt, but have gazed longingly at the sites... |

I think a mystery quilt is an awesome idea! In fact, I may have to suggest it to my local quilt store...
As for actually quilting my quilts, I am lucky - my mom has a 16ft long arm quilter. I give all of my tops to her and she gives back a lovely quilted masterpiece! |

I have a coworker with a longarm machine that has done some of mine, but she doesn't typically let me pay her (which I think I should) so I try to do as many of mine as I can on my machine at home, but if I want a real pattern in the quilting she does it for me - and then I struggle to find a way to pay her back. |
