Ha! No, we don't. I have to say, when I was pregnant with Isabella I thought doing all this organic stuff was a bit too much hooey -- I mean, I grew up in the midwest where food is laden with pesticides and I have no noticeable ticks or anything!!
But...then I had that darn kid. And my mind change about it and so many other things...
What we do is:
1. Grow a LOT of our own vegetables, so those are all completely organic.
2. Buy locally grown fruit when it is in season. We are very lucky that the Pacific NW (particularly this side of the Cascade Mountains) has such few pests that locally grown food really does not have many pesticides. Not all is guaranteed organic, but I feel comfortable buying them...
3. Buy the "
dirty dozen" fruits & veggies organic.
4. Buy other fruits & veggies organically if they are easy for me to get to (I do the majority of my shopping at Trader Joes, not Whole Foods) and if they don't cost me a FORTUNE (err, Whole Foods/AKA Whole Paycheck)
I have to admit that I have never bought organic meat -- I just cannot part with that kind of money. I will buy free-range chicken products, but I just cannot spend that much money on chicken breasts! And, I don't buy organic milk (insert gasp here). I make sure it is antibiotic (rGBH or rbST) free -- which all our local stuff is. But, once again, I haven't been able to justify spending $25 a week on milk alone with our meager budget -- we use 4 gallons a week! I just don't have the money to spend that way!
