Default Flaxseed

I eat flaxseed and wheatgerm on my oatmeal every morning. Well, I just remembered it was around this stage in my first pregnancy that I was told to stop eating flaxseed because it hasn't been tested enough to determine whether or not it can have an effect on the fetus. I was paranoid about everything while pregnant with DD so I stopped eating it. However, I'm tempted to continue with it this pregnancy because it's known to have such good health benefits and, most importantly, I like it. On the other hand, after the peanut butter discussion earlier this morning, I don't want to do any harm. Has anyone here taken flaxseed while pregnant? Any thoughts?

I don't have any studies to point you to but I took flaxseed and flaxseed oil all throughout my pregnancies. It is a GREAT monofat and chock full of Omega's which is important for me because I don't eat fish at all.

I take fishoil and was told it was fine iwth my OB, I don't always take it b/c its massive and sometimes hard for me to get down without panicking! mmm... maybe I'll look it up on safeforfetus ro whatever that site is called.

Here is some infor on flaxseed and fishoil suppliments I founds
Fish oil during pregnancy could boost baby's coordination| News | This is London

Ask Moxie: Supplements for Pregnancy and Postpartum

Okay it seems that flaxseed can cause some sort of sudohormone thing with estrogen or soemthing or another (ohhh I'm soooo scientific NOT!). Anyways so it looks liek now they lean more toward fishoil rather than flaxseed.

I ate flaxseed everyday when I was pg. I am allergic to fish so fs is one of the best ways for me to get Omega 3's.

I took high grade fish oil while pregnant (actually still do), and I also put flaxseed on my cereal every morning while pregnant. I did it not only for the Omega 3s, but also it is good to help with constipation. And since I was anemic while pregnant and having to take extra iron, I needed it! I'd say keep eating it if you want to, it doesn't seem to have hurt my kids at all.

Good luck!
