Default Sleep

Once again, it comes down to sleep.

When A was sleeping better at night, I started losing weight again. I was back into my pre-pg work pants. (They fit differently, but they did fit.) Since she stopped sleeping, I'm busting out of them. In 2 weeks, I probably gained about 5-7 pounds.

I guess I'm the only one whose weight is so affected by sleep, but it has always been this way. 8 hours and it is pretty easy to maintain a weight. Anything less and I get chubby. Erg.

I'm sorry, E, that sucks. It's a good thing my weight isn't affected by lack of sleep or I'd be morbidly obese. I have literally slept eight hours straight maybe ten times in the past four years.
Do you think it's just a metabolism thing, or do you think you eat more junk when you're tired (and therefore grumpy and lacking the energy to put together a healthy snack or meal)? Of course you probably don't have the energy to exercise as much when you're exhausted, either.

I was just reading that getting enough sleep is a factor, so no, it's not just you! I think it does actually affect your metabolism. It makes total sense to me in just simple terms, too - when I'm tired, I'm much more likely to load up on sugar and be irritable and not caring about what I eat generally. If I'm rested I feel better and better able to focus on planning a meal, etc. Plus, you're less likely to work out if you're tired. So tell those kids to start sleeping!

Not just you. Tara has been teething and testing out her new pulling up and cruising skills at 2 am. Plus Nora is sick and she can't sleep at night when she can't breathe through her nose.

I noticed I have wanted to snack more...for energy. I have been fighting that with low point snacks, but man, it's hard and it does affect me.

There's a link! There's some hormone that gets produced during sleep that helps control appetite, etc during the day. If you have broken or inadequate sleep, you will not produce enough of said hormone, and you will often experience increased appetite. It's not just you!
