Recently I have had a strong desire to go running though Freud would probably say that has more to do with running from my current situation

I think getting ready for a race is a GREAT idea. I loved running in short races back when I was running more often. You reminded me to try to pick up some running clothes when I am at the house today. I have my shoes but nothing else. Not really a good idea to go running in capri's and a regular bra
Oh, because you mentioned a lot of your upcoming race is offroad it is important to build up your ankles for the terain. As you are sitting lift your foot off the ground, pretend your big toe is a pen and write the alphabet letter by letter moving your whole foot. This will exercise and help strengthen your ankles. It would suck to twist one during the race.
