Different. We eat a lot more variety of cultures of foods than I did as a kid, in large part because those things are more common now. There are things that are staples for us now that were unheard of in my community as a child - bagels you only ate in NYC, croissants you only ate in France, hummus ... no one knew what hummus was..., I could go on and on. So we eat a lot of those things. We eat about the same of fruits and veggies. We eat more meat and better cuts of meat, but we have a lot more money for that than my parents did when I was growing up.

I do miss the Monday Night Sandwich Night that we always had when I was a kid. Monday was grocery shopping day and my parents always got fresh bread, deli sliced meat and cheese, and all the fresh produce for toppings. We would eat sandwiches as we put away the rest of the groceries. And then play board games. Wow. Good memories.

I would say my experience was like Ally's. Now we have more cultural varity in our cuisine, and now much more organic, and however we eat *less* meat but better cuts. And we eat more beans and tofu and things we didn't ever have growing up.
But Mom gave us a 'Canada's Food Guide' type diet, it was pretty healthy. I think we eat pretty healthy now, althouhg since I"m back at work FT, there are more convenience foods/packaged stuff than there used to be.

Yes and No. We never had sweets. Maybe vanilla ice cream or those dusty Stella Doro cookies my dad loved on occasion, but that was it. We had fruit and veggies all the time. Lunch was a cheese or peanut butter sandwich. Dinner was meat, a starch and a veg. My mom was not the best cook.

These days, I am more liberal with the sweets (because I love them). I also love to cook (can you tell) and enjoy trying new sweet and savory recipes. We eat better and more varied food now, but there is probably more sugar than I had as a kid.

I do like it this way better, though!

I eat the same....less bar food though. I LOVE bar food! I try to feed Eva healthier foods-though she rather eat what's on my plate, than what's on her.

I think now that we have kids, we eat much better. Both of us grew up with parents who liked to fry things, to make lots of mashed potatoes, and who believed you should clean your entire plate. We really do eat a lot more vegetables, chicken, and less fatty and fried foods.

We are both really trying to get healthy now due to incentives from DH's company for our health insurance. DH is having a much harder time than I am.
