Default School supplies

Wow! I just downloaded the list of school supplies that DD will need for kindergarten, and it's pretty long! They need a lot of stuff. Now I know why people spread their school shopping over a few months, instead of doing it all at once.

Also, does your school do a "suggested donations" supply list where they don't require your child to have certain items but "suggest" that you buy them and donate them? Things on our suggested lists are Lysol, wipes, Kleenex, etc. Just curious.

Happy shopping!

The suggested items are for the classroom. I know my mother ended up supplying her class with klennex from October on. Most of the cost of those things is passed on to the teachers.

No suggested here, everything is listed. Including tissue, wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. The teacher will also send a note home when supplies need to be replenished. Our list is quite long and this year I'll have a 1st grader and Kindergartener. Fun times . . .

I wondered if those were the things the teachers ended up having to spend money on.

It's that time of year again. Our preschool asked that each child bring a list of things.

At our school some of those things are required...and then some. Notebooks, markers, kleenex...but our school district is kind of poor.

I have no clue what Anna will need. I'm guessing nothing because I haven't gotten any info, and its just preschool. I am confused about the backpack thing. I'll have to email the director.

School supplies are so much fun to buy. I loved starting a new year with clean folders, binder, and new pencils!

As a public school, our supplies are "suggested" not "required" and until 3rd grade all the supplies are used as a group by the classroom. So the cool notebook that your child picks out might not get used by your child; I suggest getting just the basic stuff, nothing fancy, until you know how it works in your school.
And yes, our list contains kleenex, hand sanitizer, and clorox wipes for the classroom. As the room parent each year since K, I am AMAZED at how few people actually donate those items.

As an aside...Staples is having their 1 cent sale this week. You can go stock up on a lot of supplies for 1 cent apiece.

Default Re: School supplies

This is one of they many reasons I am glad we homeschool and Brendan is almost out of jr. high!

Every year I was REQUIRED to buy 8 boxes of Kleenex, 4 for each boy. One year I bought everything but the Kleenex and Brendan came home with a note saying if he didn't have 4 boxes the next day he would start serving detention until he showed with the boxes
Well, until this summer when Cory got a cold at the condo in FL sleeping right next to the A/C unit neither boy had ever had a cold, runny nose etc. AND even if they or the average kid did they are MUCH ore likely to use their sleeves
So one night I'm at the jr. high and in one of the rooms to pay for summer school and there is an entire 10 foot wall of Kleenex. Stacked like bricks floor to ceiling! Nice to know they needed those 4 boxes so badly

Sorry to hyjack - you hit a nerve with me

If you find stuff on sale and are buying some anyway then there's no harm in donating. I wouldn't have a problem buying extra pensils or crayons if I knew they would go to the classroom or a child in need. I would not buy Lysol but that's me it's the perfume of Satan
