Check your vehicles owners mannual it will surprise you how many cars out there do not have the latches for rear facing seats in the middle. You have to have three sets of anchors one for each position to be able to safely use the middle seat...or your owners mannual needs to state that you can use the middle seat by "bridging" the inside anchors from each of the two outside seat positions. You can use the seatbelt to position a child seat in the middle position if you vehicle doesn't accomodate it using LATCH/UAS, but I can never get it in tight enough using the seatbelt. We have a Chevy Malibu (2006) and a Subaru Forester (2003) and neither of these vehicles allows for the safe positioning of a child seat in the middle position. I was shocked,
DD has always been on the outside (behind the passenger). When #2 arrives we will move her to behind the driver and put the baby behind the passenger.
DH has to have the seat all the way back and there isn't room to put a rear facing seat behind him if he has to drive. Plus if you put the infant seat behind the driver you'd have a hard time seeing them in the rearview mirror.
