| Organizing family documents | | I finally got around to getting Sam's birth certificate last week (you know, only 9 months later! ). One of my goals for tomorrow is to get all of those important family documents organized and in the same place- birth certificates, social security cards, marriage certificate, insurance information, titles and deeds, important account information. If ever in an emergency, it's good to have all of these things easily accessible. |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | I was so glad that I keep all that stuff totally disorganized, but at least in a carry-case fire retardant lock box. When we were threatened by the Griffith Park fires, I was so happy to have it all in one place. I grabbed that, and our computers have all our photos, and I was good to go.
BTW, another good idea - get all your photos scanned and on a back-up hard drive. Then keep that back up with the lockbox. Aileen's tip of the day! |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | We've got it all in a fire safe. I would like to organize a master file, though, with all of our account numbers/passwords for all of our investment and retirement accounts to put in there. We've got that information spread out all over the place, but it would be nice to have it in one place just in case. |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | We have a fire safe box for ther eally important ones and then a two drawer filing cabinet for bank statements, bills, old taxes etc- it is a total mess. I have phone bills from 7 years ago. I really need to purge ALOT from it and save only what we actually need |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | We have ours in a fire safe too. Good idea to scan them and put them on back up.
I think I'll give a copy to my parents as well. |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | I have the crazy file cabinet too. I really need to get everything organized. My goal sometime soon is to back up all my pics and put those discs in our safe. All of the account numbers and passwords is another good idea. |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | we have CDs of pictures insurance policies, will's, and power of attorney docs in our safe deposit box. We have copies of all those things, plus our passports, marriage certificate, and birth certificates in a fire proof safe too, as well as a key to the safe deposit box. |

| Re: Organizing family documents | | Good grief -- that's been sitting on my 2007 Goals list on the fridge all year. Here it is, nearly the end of Oct. and I have YET to get my important documents together! Ugh, time is ticking away... |
