Default Meal Plan

Do you do it?

I used to do it faithfully. I've fallen off of the wagon since May though. We've been busy or away or I've been lazy. Before school starts I really want to get back on track.

List a few of your family's favorite dishes. I'd love some new meals to add to my regular rotation.

Now that I'm home full time- I do plan by the week. During the summer, virtually every night is grilling- but I never get sick of chicken skewers and grilled veggies. During the rest of the year, we have stirfry at least once a week, usually with spicy peanut noodles. Usually there is something mexican and something from the crockpot on the menu. But now that I'm doing weight watchers- I'll probably be making alot of their recipes this fall and winter (their spanikopita and chicken marsala are SO YUMMY!!)

No, but I should. I have tried it in the past and liked having things planned, but it just isn't habit yet so it rarely gets done.
Some of our favorites are:
BBQed Pulled Pork
Homemade Chicken Pot Pie
Escalloped Potatoes and Ham
Beef enchalatas
Beef Stew

I really need to get back on the wagon of doing that. Now our Mondays and Wednesday evenings are filled with swim lessons and Tuesdays is soccer practice and we don't get home until after 6pm...I don't want to run to chick FIL a all three of those nights but I will do one. The other two I need something that I can make quick (it's just too hot for crock pot...) so I can get the kids up for bath time. Tuesday I am hitting up the new Dream Dinners that opened by us. That should help. Our freezer in the house is also full of meats that we need to use very soon.

We're so disorganized we really should do a meal plan but we don't. We do a lot of easy to prepare meals here. Lots of meat, chicken, or fish on the grill especially in the summer. Cooks quick with no mess. Just add a veggie and maybe some starch and dinner is served. We also do a lot of pasta tosed with shrimp and veggies with a quick sauce.

Default Re: Meal Plan

I do it pretty regularly. Some weeks I'm really on the ball and have everything planned out to a "T", sometimes I just plan a few meals and then we have leftovers and sandwiches on the other nights. I do better in the fall/winter because i have a lot of soup/crock pot meals that I love to make, but they work better when it's cold outside.

Some of our easy favorites are Chicken Tortilla Soup (I think Amanda posted the recipe on the MSBBs and we LOVED it), Beef Enchiladas, all kinds of pasta, and homemade pizzas (we just invent our own most of the time, but Rachael Ray has a great Buffalo Chicken pizza recipe).

One SUPER easy thing we've been doing a lot this summer is BLT's. So yummy and so easy! I can't bring myself to do the turkey bacon, but I at least get the lower fat stuff, so it's not *AS* bad for you. Add some corn-on-the-cob and it's a great summer meal!

Kind of. It is hard with DH out of town so much. Even if I plan while he is out of town, I ususally end up being too tired from dealing with the kids to actually go out of my way to fix something for myself.

Recently I have fallen in love with Let's Dish, one of the meal preparation places. Now that I have a freezer full of yummy meals, I meal plan about 5 days in advance to make sure I have all the right sides and have things thawed in time.

But some of our favorite non-frozen meals are:

beef and broccoli
thai beef or chicken
quesadillas
chili
corn chowder

Default Re: Meal Plan

I do it every week. I have a big dry erase board on my refrigerator and I wrote the days of the week on it in permanent marker. Every weekend I sit down and plan that week's meals and write it on the board, even if its just FFY (fend for yourself). Then I make my grocery list from that.

Some of our standbys - chicken & rice, tamale pie, meatloaf, spagetti, ravioli, tacos (or taco salads), steak, pork chops, lemon chicken, bowtie pastas with chicken & broccoli, & hamburger steak. During the winter I also make a lot of chilis and stews.
