| Favorite Children's books and story time... | | Just trying to pick your brain for an article that is on my mind and I wanted to get a list of your favorite books that you read to your kids (and their favorites ) and how story and book time works in your house!

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | Is Your Mama a Llama
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom & Chicka Chicka 1-2-3
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Corduroy (and any of the many variations off the original)
Peter Rabbit
Any book about fire trucks
Isabella reads ALL THE TIME! She loves to read and does it by herself all the time. She has books in the car (the only thing we have in the car for her). And when we come home, her books are the first thing she runs to when we get home! We have to put limits on our reading time as she wants me to read to her even when I'm cooking dinner or whatnot. So, we often set a timer so I can get back to work! |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | Well, I still remember what reading time was like when I was little, so here's my 0.02.
I LOVED the Dr. Seuss books. My favorites were the Foot Book and Green Eggs and Ham. My mom also read us books like The Velveteen Rabbit and The Adventures of Peter Cottontail.
My mom read to us every day when we were little. There was no real set time, because I guess she didn't want us to associate a particular time of day with reading. She just wanted us to read period. She stopped reading to me when I was able to start reading to myself (early age ... don't remember). I read as much as I could. I loved Beverly Clearly and the Ramona books. Reading was pretty much my ONLY hobby through elementary school. I loved, and still love, to read. |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | DH and I are huge bookworms and so is Nora. The kid has loved books from the beginning. I read to her during tummy time when she was an infant and every day since. She will read by herself for looonnnggg stretches of time, and she will beg me to read to her constantly.
This is no where near a complete list, but some favorites lately are:
Fancy Nancy
Are You My Mother?
Green Eggs and Ham
This Way Ruby
The Gruffalo
The Whale and the Snail
Poppleton
Lambert the Sheepish Lion
All the Harry the Dirty Dog stories
Amelia Bedelia
I loved Harry and Amelia as a child. I also loved Blueberries for Sal and the Little House books.
Nora gets a few stories before nap and bed. Or she sometimes will get a long one (some of the Golden Book story books are quite long). I also will read to her while I nurse Tara. Tara hangs out with us when I read to Nora at naptime. I have also started tummy time reading with Tara, too. Our favorite books for that are
Brown Rabbit's Shape Book
Goodnight Moon
Mr Brown can Moo Can You?
Barnyard Dance |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | We read alot to the girls throughout the day. Their favorites vary due to their ages/interests. Maribelle loves factual and educational books. Anything about nature, animals, bugs, and her favorite is an anatomy book. They are super boring (for me) to read but she just loves them and will pick something out like that at Barnes and Noble vs. a story book.
Risy's favorites right now are Hooper Humperdink, If You Give a Mouse series, anything Dr. Seuss. But she would rather be up and about than read, she rarely sits through a whole book. When she was younger she would but not anymore.
We just finished Charlottes Web. We read a chapter each day and then let them watch the movie. That was fun for them.
And we always read a book or a few pages out of Maribelle's books every night before bed. |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | We've been reading to Ben before bed since about 2mos. and throught the day since birth- and he loves books too and will sit and flip the pages by himself while I put laundry away. BUT, I've learned that in the past few weeks he will rip the flaps out of "peek-a-boo" books if given the chance, so we've had a few casualities. He loves any of the Eric Carle books (Very Hungry Catapillar, Very Busy Spider, Brown Bear Borwn Bear What to you Hear, etc); MaMa MaMa, any picture book with photos of animals, Jingle Bugs (this is part of a whole series and I need somemore of them) and pretty much and flap books. Sounds like a good article to me |

I love your tummy time idea...Poor Christine hardly gets put on the floor let alone tummy time with a two year old brother running around. I need to try that though. He loves all those books that you listed and would love to help me MOOOOO and make all the Mr Brown sounds |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | Sarah, give it a try. It's even better if you can do it in front of a mirror...we have a mirrored closet in her room, so I do it there. She can be on her tummy and see me and the book by just lifting her head. And, if the book bores her, she can see herself!
Nora will get on her tummy with me, too. It's pretty fun. Even better, all that tummy time poops her out. Can you say NAPTIME! Woo Hoo! |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | This is one of my favourite topics because I'm an elementary school teacher and reading to my class was always one of my/their favourite things to do! G and I read together at least once a day but always right after her bath, before she goes to bed. Some of my favourites are: Koala Lou by Mem Fox (and basically all of her other books) Wombat Stew by Marcia K. Vaughn Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Eric Carle (and all of his other books, as well) The Mole Sisters books
The Toot and Puddle books No, David! The Hat & The Mitten by Jan Brett
And so many more that I can't even think of right now! I love, love, love picture books! They are just so much fun. |

| Re: Favorite Children's books and story time... | | Current favs for Matthew are
Skippyjon Jones (any of the series)
Hilda Must Be Dancing
Leonardo the Terrible Monster (anything Mo Willems)
Ain't Gonna Paint No More (not popular for proper grammar)
Wombat series Charles Fuge
Sophia's attention span is far shorter than even his at her age. She looks a the first and last pages! We're working on her.
I try to read to Matthew whenever. Sometimes in the morning before work and/or before bed (on mama's bed). He could stare at books for ages. Love it. |
