Argh - I messed up. Bryn had a couple shots this morning. When we got home, I wanted to give her some motrin. With Will screaming in my ear, I wasn't really paying attention. I ended up giving her children's motrin instead of infant motrin (about 1/2 tsp). Should I be freaking out?

Don't worry. Is it the Children's motrin suspension 100mg per 5ml?
Because 5ml = 1 tsp which equals 100 mg of motrin in the children's suspension liquid
So if you did 1/2 tsp that equals 50 mg of motrin.
For infant dosing, for infants 12-15 lbs, according to my pediatrician's dosage chart, you would give them 1.25 ml which also equals 50 mg.
So actually, it sounds like you gave her the right amount!
That said, you aren't supposed to give Motrin to babies under 6 months.
But still I wouldn't freak out.

Now I'm really freaking out because of the fact that I gave her Motrin instead of Tylenol. CRAP! The pharmacist was no help after me being on hold for ten minutes. They said call the ped. I did. No one's called back. And you know how long that can take. OMG - I'm a wreck.

I'd call the peds office again and use the phrase "medicinal emergency" or something like that. "I may have given my child the wrong dose, I am VERY concerned" so they know it is important they get back with you.

Another option might be poison control. Obviously she has not been poisoned but when I had to call them years ago when one of the girls go a hold of the teething tablets they were very helpful.

I just got off the phone with poison control. They said she should be fine but that she could get a bit of an upset stomach and to keep an eye out for any sort of allergic reactions.

I am so beating myself up over this right now. We had such a bad night sleep and I've just sort of been on autopilot all morning. I'm so mad at myself right now.

You're not the first mom to do that...I did the same thing to Diva. I cried so much....Diva is 18 months and soooo smart it's ridiculous. Everything will be okay!

Don't beat yourself up Dawn. We've all done things we think to ourselves later -- what was I thinking!? But honestly, the chances of Bryn have a reaction are really low, and like I said, you didn't really "overdose" her, you just gave her Motrin that she's not supposed to have until 6 months. I'm sure she will be fine!
