Very Close to Being Ready

I believe that I shored up some IE-specific font-display issues, although I'm still not excited about the way fonts appear in Internet Explorer 7. It is screwy enough that I'm not entirely sure why so many people use Internet Explorer - either you don't have anti-aliased fonts at all, or you get anti-aliasing coupled with random bolding and poor contrast. It actually hurts my eyes to use Internet Explorer for too long with "Clear Type" fonts enabled. If you are still using Internet Explorer, try downloading Firefox. You will be happy.

In order to resolve the font problem, I built a pretty cool little utility for viewing fonts of various sizes that you can use in different web browsers to see how they match up. Certain sizes look terrible in certain browsers because of the font-rendering engines. It appears as well, that there are differences depending on what color the fonts are too. It is way too much of a headache to deal with these little details.

The QuickSnips section is populating out well, although it will probably take a week or two before we can really be consistent with subject matter. If you like what I'm posting, let me know or don't say anything. If you don't like it, please fill me in.

The home page was updated with recent feature articles along the bottom row, and I'm implementing a page-rebuilding scheduled utility to keep the "Recently" and "Discussion" areas up to date. I prefer not to use dynamic pages because they take about 80 times longer for the web server to put together, which will turn into a problem under heavy load times.

In order to move forward with promotion, I have a few changes I'd like to make with the forums, I need to populate some of the standard pages - RSS Feeds, Privacy Policy, etc., make some navigational adjustments, and implement on-site search capabilities and lay out parameters for visitors to promote their sites.

On the plate for the near term future, are Mom-Blog updates, Recent Blog Entry functionality in the forum, voting for articles, submitting articles and quicksnips, and some incentive programs for the forums. Stay with me folks. We're trying every day to make improvements until we get to the point where this is indeed a very special project.

I'm sorry for all the "Webmastery" talk in this blog. I didn't want to pull in that direction, but it's what is on my mind for the time being.
