As we build the site out, your feedback is important. We set up an area in the discussion forum just for that.
I'd like to quickly move into a site promotion mode, but there is a minimum quality and content level that I'd like to achieve before I go about spending money and energy in that direction.
One thing that I've seen suggested a few times but won't be doing is centering the layout. There are a few reasons for that - first, a left-aligned layout sets us apart from all the other blogs and the like. Second, it causes some difficulties in doing things layout-wise that I have planned for the near future. Third, centered layouts shift around and make window-resizing difficult.
One thing that I'm very concerned about is page load times and I'll be doing a bit of tracking and tweaking to ensure that people can get to content quickly and easily. It's the primary reason that the site is devoid of nice curves, rounded corners, and the like because those sorts of things can increase page load times significantly - and hamper an otherwise speedy site during heavy load times.
Really, the idea is that we have a halfway decent looking site where the design doesn't overwhelm the content. It's not how pretty we are that is important, but how much quality information we can provide you with.
I've noticed that the font usage doesn't appear in Internet Explorer nearly as well as it does in Firefox. The discrepancy between the two is sometimes a bit of a nightmare for web designers. I'm looking into alleviating the problem.
